A recent Gallup poll reveals some interesting data: the favorability rating of Americans polled shows the party in power at 41%. I don’t know about you but I’m thinking the corruption, the back room deals and governing against the will of the American people have a lot to do with this.

Gallup last measured party images in late August/early September of last year. At that point, the Democratic Party enjoyed an 11-point favorable image advantage over the Republican Party. Now, the favorable ratings of the two parties are essentially tied.

The images of the two major parties have particular significance in a midterm election year. For example, the favorable rating of the Democratic Party exceeded that of the Republican Party by 52% to 37% just prior to the 2006 midterm elections, in which the Democrats gained 31 House seats.Americans’ current 41% favorable rating of the Democratic Party is five points lower than the party’s previous low, recorded twice in 2005.

By contrast, the Republican Party’s image reached its all-time low of 31% in December 1998 — just after the House of Representatives voted to impeach President Bill Clinton. The Republicans’ current rating is improved from a pair of 34% ratings Gallup measured in late 2008 and in May 2009.

How does one prepare for an upcoming appearance by Seth MacFarlane of Family Guy fame? If you’re Bill Maher, you follow up the Family Guy/Sarah Palin/Down Syndrome attack by doing an ‘exclusive rant’ for the Huffington Post which includes – you guessed it – a joke about Sarah Palin’s son, Trig.

Maher appeals to his lower-intellect audience by stating:

“…while we were off, Sarah Palin agreed to do commentary at Fox News. Which is actually very similar to her day job – talking to a baby with Down Syndrome.”

Dick Morris honestly believes the GOP can win the Senate this year and with a few seats to spare. While I don’t share his optimism one can only hope the American people will elect conservative Republicans (no RINO’s please). Read Dick’s analysis:

If the Republican Party wins every senate seat in which it now holds a lead, according to Rasmussen’s polls, it will capture eight Democratic seats while holding all of its own. The two remaining pickups, to assure control, could be in Indiana where former Senator Dan Coats may run against Senator Evan Bayh and in California.

Even if Coats does not run, former Congressman John Hostettler is only behind Bayh by 44-41. And, in California, former Hewlitt Packhard CEO Carly Fiorina is also only three points behind Senator Barbara Boxer.

(This assumes that former Wisconsin governor Tommy Thompson takes on Senator Russ Feingold).

He goes on further to explain:

If Republicans take all ten seats, they take control in the Senate.

In addition strong challenges may be shaping up in New York against Kirsten Gillibrand and in Washington State against Patty Murray.

Gillibrand, appointed to fill Hillary’s seat, is very vulnerable, both in a primary against former Tennessee Democratic Congressman Harold Ford and in a general election. If a strong candidate emerges, she and/or Ford could be defeated.

And in Washington State, innovative businessman (and millionaire) Paul Akers is likely to run against Patty Murray. The Washington State senator only won with 55% of the vote last time, a poor performance for a three term incumbent. Akers’ company takes new technologies, buys them, and then uses them to create jobs. He should give Murray a tough race which he could end up winning.

But the message of Massachusetts is that any Republican can beat any Democrat anywhere. So don’t count out former Congressman Rob Simmons’ race against Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal or any possible candidate against Oregon’s Ron Wyden and New York’s Chuck Schumer.

The Republicans will win the Senate (and the House) and might win it with a few seats to spare!

Democrats are just a little to late for this party, they’re just now admitting the bribe they made with Sen. Ben Nelson known as the “cornhusker kickback” was a major factor in souring the America people on the health care reform bill.

Senate leadership inked a deal in December to win over Nelson (D-NE), allowing him to insert pro-life language in the measure and to secure federal funding for the cost of any Medicaid expansion in what has now been dubbed the “Cornhusker kickback.”

It’s been the target of lawsuits and scorn from both the right and the left, and leaders in both chambers believe it ultimately will be stripped from the final measure, whenever one surfaces.

Instead of considering more dealmaking to get a final health care bill passed, Democratic sources privately acknowledge that Nelson’s compromise did more harm than good. Several sources said it tops a list of problems that have hurt the health care process.

It is paid for by the American Public Policy Committee. Well, according to opensecrets.org, the two donors for American Public Policy Committee this year are Patriot Majority and Patriot Majority West.

However, according to opensecrets.org, the 2nd largest contributor in 2008 to Patriot Majority was SEIU and other top Unions around America.
